Date: 2013-07-26 08:00 pm (UTC)My husband worked construction while living in Ireland and that industry completely tanked. There's no way we could have stayed in 2011. I have my masters but Ireland has a completely ridiculous law regarding background checks so my ability to find work would be challenging at best. In a nutshell, in order to work with 'vulnerable populations' in Ireland, you need to have lived there for FIVE YEARS before they can do a complete background check so you can work with said individuals. um... I work in human services so I would have to essentially live in Ireland for 5 years before I could even apply for a job in my field. I called the guarda about it and everything. I wouldn't be able to handle doing completely unsatisfying work for 5 years of my life if we moved back.
I miss it every day... but with few job prospects and a low income, we would not be able to do handle it :(

Date: 2013-07-27 01:23 am (UTC)My name is Caitlin, I'm 24 and currently living at home in Jersey. I've been on LJ since high school, so if you go back far enough you'll find some endlessly embarrassing entries that I'm too lazy to go back and make private. I tend to write about my daily life, which more recently has revolved around my ongoing medical issues (fibromyalgia and related funtimes), my job hunt, and my dog. He's an awesome dog. The best dog, actually.
I don't get into fandom very much. When I do it tends to be one at a time, and they tend to be... not so very popular, as far as fandoms go. So it rarely comes up in my journal. Right now I'm super into Law & Order. If you want to geek out over a 20-year-old procedural, I'm your girl. If not, no big.
I love movies, especially classic Hollywood films. I stayed an extra year at college to get a second degree in radio/tv/film (my first was in writing arts), and I really miss studying film.
Oh, I'm also bisexual, liberal, and a feminist, so you know, standard disclaimers apply. I'm not really interested in reading about religion (after 13 years of Catholic school I'm still burned out), non-stop fandom stuff, drama for drama's sake, or reposts from Twitter or elsewhere. Other than that, if you think we'd get along, let me know and I'll be glad to add you.

Date: 2013-07-27 04:07 am (UTC)I'm rather nerdy. I love board games and card games like Magic the Gathering and I love shows like Doctor Who, Torchwood, Farscape, Andromeda, Stargate, Eureka, and Firefly.
I also love comic book movies like X-men, Ironman, Thor, Avengers, Batman, etc.
I like people. I like people who post. I like people who comment. I'm very good at checking journals. I don't really care who befriends me, as long as you're not a stalker from real life. My journal is a RL journal though, I don't really fangirl in it. I talk about work, fiancee, sex, wedding planning, crazy kitties, and random vacations that I like to plan.
I got engaged about 2 months ago, and I'm getting married on 3.1415 because my fiancee is a math nerd. And we're working on planning a very nerdy wedding. Think 20 sided engraved dice as favors, book-themed tables, and a Diablo II shaped wedding cake with a tardis as a cake topper.
I have two cats [and want more] and consider myself a crazy cat lady. Their names are Sorin and Anjani after MtG planeswalkers.
I love to read. I read almost anything. I also really like glittery lave lamps. If I was in Harry Potter, I think I'd be sorted into Ravenclaw [with a secondary house of slytherin].
And I guess that sums it up.

Date: 2013-07-27 04:07 am (UTC)I'm here to start over, start my journal up again and meet new friends. What I'd really like is to meet some like-minded people who are fairly active. Who knows? Maybe we'll get to be pretty good friends.
Librarian by day, aspiring writer by night, my life is surrounded by books and literature of all kinds. In my spare time I can be found sitting outside with my nose in a book or a camera in my hands. I adore nature photography, and occasionally I'll post some of my photos here as well.
I'm a bit of a geek. I love video games; currently I'm playing through Darksiders and The Last of Us (both amazing by the way). Nothing will beat Alice: Madness Returns and the Portal games, though. I'm also a fan of too many TV shows to name. But to list a few: Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Supernatural, Firefly, Breaking Bad, Dexter, Chuck, Once Upon A Time, The Mentalist, Criminal Minds, Dead Like Me, Big Bang Theory, etc.
I adore horror movies, but I'm also admittedly a fan of cheesy romantic comedies, too. Disney movies? Heck yes! And don't even get me started on books; I have far too many favourites.
Anyways, don't be afraid to hit me up. I look forward to meeting you all :)
